Each week, The London West Tincaps Major Rookie team will select an MLB player of the week. This may be a current player on a hot streak, a former baseball great or someone we want to recognize and learn about.
This weeks player of the week is Denton True"Cy" Young.
Shown here pitching in 1908,
Cy Young's nickname came from the fences that he had destroyed using his fastball. The fences looked like a cyclone had hit them. Reporters later shortened the name to "Cy", which became the nickname Young used for the rest of his life.
His MLB record 511 career wins still stands today, and many believe it is a record that will never be broken.
